Bloody Sunday: Ex-soldier arrested over Londonderry shootings
A former soldier has been arrested by detectives investigating the events of Bloody Sunday in Londonderry.

Thirteen people were killed when British paratroopers opened fire on a civil rights march through the city in January 1972. A fourteenth died later.

The 66-year-old is a former member of the Parachute Regiment.

It is understood he is being questioned over the deaths of William Nash, Michael McDaid and John Young.

The man is the first person to be arrested as part of the Bloody Sunday investigation.

He is being interviewed at a police station in Belfast after being detained in County Antrim on Tuesday morning.

He is soldier J, who was one of the soldiers who appeared before the Saville Inquiry.

Now I'm not going to get into the rights and wrongs of this, except to say, if you send soldiers into a situation where firearms are going to be used, then don't be surprised when firearms are used, unless orders were disobeyed.

Seems like the people that sent the Paras in, should be prosecuted or investigated, not the Grunt on the street?

Our country loves its armed forces so much that it does this the day before 11/11.

If someone had said in the 1990s that we'd be locking up marines for killing members of the Taliban, having our queen shake hands with former IRA members and letting people burn poppies in the street, you'd probably have been laughed at.

Tragic events at a peaceful march, but once they heard IRA gunshots, they naturally went into 'kill' mode

If IRA terrorists have been forgiven then he should be forgiven, but that doesn't make shooting civilians justifiable.
